Friday, June 11th marks the return of Brent Gorton to the Albany scene. His new group, Better Pills, is based on a traditional jazz rhythm section of bass, keyboard, and drums and draws inspiration from early new wave, goth and Krautrock (Seventeen Seconds era Cure, Gary Numan, Faust).

Salon Style is back with another two songs. Nicely timed for an area performance, Mr. Gaven Richard presents the next installment in a series of new music.

Salon Style will perform THIS Friday, July 31st at Valentine’s in Albany, NY as a part of the release performance for Scientific Maps‘ new Galvanic Wizardry EP. Also performing is long-lost friend Greg Adams in the band Swimclub, now residing in Brooklyn, NY.

In other Salon Style news, WEXT will host an interview with Gaven to air Thursday, July 30th and Sunday, August 2nd at 9pm and 11am respectively. Tune into WEXT for more information.

Presenting Salon Style

Our first exclusive free digital release is Gaven Richard’s new project, Salon Style. Some folks will recognize Gaven’s trademark songwriting style within these new recordings, yet this is quite a 180 degree turn from his previous output. Here’s what Gaven had to say about Salon Style:

My name is Gaven Richard and I perform and record under the name Salon Style. The music is sample based – loops are pulled from a broad range of genres then left alone, exposed, repeating themselves in a state of shock. The austerity of the music cedes focus to the singing, a generally plaintive keen with a wry undertone. Lyrics are mini-narratives that meld country’s obsession with quotidian detail and metal’s macabre fantasies.
